I spent some time in the South Luangwa National Park, in Zambia, volunteering in a stunning safari lodge for the past 7 years. I don't have a particular role when I am there but I mostly host guests and I try to give a hand to everyone including the chefs, the waiters, the mechanics and the safari guides. I see myself as facilitating everybody's work and I try to make everyone happy (which is not difficult given I am so happy when I am there!).

It is quite an amazing experience to be able to step out of your normal life for a while and do something completely different to what I usually do.

One of the things I love the most when I am in camp is hearing the lions calling in the middle of the night. This is one of the most impressive sounds of the bush. No matter how far they are (lions' roar can be heard five miles away), this never fails at waking me up. One morning I was late to host breakfast because the pride of lions was sleeping in front of my room and I obvioulsy could not come out. I went back to bed thinking I was well guarded by nine lions.
